Shoes for Swollen Feet

Every shoe in this collection is extra deep and opens wide — touch-fasten straps or a full-length fastening that releases rather than stretches.

Swelling is not a fixed size, so what works is not a bigger shoe but an adjustable one, in EE, EEE, 4E and 6E fittings. If your feet change a lot through the day, book a free fitting at our Farnham showroom.

More about our shoes for swollen feet

To choose: look first at how far the shoe opens. Multi-strap touch-fasten models open the widest and are the easiest to manage seated or with a dressing in place. Then look at depth — if the swelling is across the instep rather than the toes, that is the measurement that matters. Every insole lifts out, which releases a few more millimetres and makes room for a prescribed orthotic.

If your feet measure differently from each other, or change a lot through the day, book a free fitting at our Farnham showroom — or read our fitting guide before ordering.

Extra wide shoes for swollen feet, up to 6E

Four fittings, EE through to 6E. A wider fitting is not a longer shoe: the length stays the same and the width and depth are added across the forefoot, so you are not walking out of a shoe that is two sizes too long.

Adjustable fastenings that keep up with the day

Touch-fasten straps can be reset in seconds without taking the shoe off, which matters when the foot at 8am and the foot at 8pm are different feet. Laces and zips are here too, on the models where a finer adjustment suits better.

A private alternative to NHS-supplied footwear

Our footwear is supplied to NHS-contracted orthotic providers and dispensed to NHS patients on prescription. If you have been supplied footwear that way and want more choice of style, or you would rather not wait, you can buy the same footwear here directly. Our range is registered as Class I medical devices.

Questions we are asked

Should I buy a larger size for swollen feet?

Usually not. A longer shoe still presses across the instep and the foot slides forward inside it. A wider, deeper fitting in your normal length is almost always the better answer.

When should I measure my feet?

Later in the day, when the swelling is at its worst. Fit the shoe to the foot at its largest and use the fastening to take it in when it is smaller.

Will these fit over a bandage or compression garment?

Many of them will — the widest touch-fasten models are the ones to look at, and taking the insole out gives a little more. Tell us what you are wearing when you book a fitting and we will start from there.

New or one-sided swelling should be looked at rather than accommodated. Speak to your GP, and if you are under a lymphoedema or cardiology team, check with them before changing anything about compression.
